Give Your Skin a Fall Refresh!

The fall is a time for transition, which means that it is also the perfect time to reassess how we are taking care of our skin. After hot days of sun and sunscreen, it is now time for the cooler weather and taking advantage of this seasonal change to boost our skin health. Here are some simple and effective tips to boost your skin this fall season!  

1. Establish nutritional support  

The summer can often be about enjoying patio season, with that often comes with indulging in foods and drinks that may be harder on our health. Our skin is a reflection of how healthy our body is – including the function of our digestive tract and detoxification organs. Optimizing our nutrient intake in terms of vitamins, minerals, amino-acids, anti-oxidants and healthy fats is so crucial to health skin. Some of these foods can include sources of healthy fats like avocados, olives, fish, or anti-inflammatory foods like wild blueberries and ginger. It is important that our diet is unique to what works best for our body so exploring tests like food sensitivity testing or a customized nutrition plan through a naturopathic doctor may be the best first step.  

2. Optimize sleep  

If we could bottle beauty sleep into a cream, that would be a dream come true! We know that we need good quality sleep for our skin to be healthy. It has been shown that a lack of sleep can decrease our skin’s hydration and elasticity levels – so therefore, less bounce and glow. Whether it is sleeping an hour earlier, establishing a relaxing routine, or simply getting a new pillow – taking the steps to prioritize your sleep can really help with refreshing your skin. If you are struggling with your sleep it is important to explore what may be the root cause of your insomnia or sleep troubles. 

3. Consider PRF treatments  

While nutritional health and optimized sleep are so important, sometimes we need a bit of a boost to our treatment plan. This is where PRF treatments can shine. PRF is platelet rich fibrin, it is a derivative of your own blood rich in growth factors and cells used to promote skin rejuvenation. From fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, enlarged pores and uneven skin tone – PRF can be an amazing addition the steps you take to refresh your skin. During the fall it is easier to add to microneedling treatments, the sun has less of an impact on your downtime from the treatment.
