Acupuncture has been practiced for over 2000 years and is the most widely used form of medicine in the world. It consists of placing ultra-thin needles on various points in the body to help redirect the flow of blood and qi (energy). Pain and disease occur in areas where blood and energy get blocked and stagnate. When acupuncture points are stimulated, it helps to unblock these areas to resolve pain, prevent disease, improve immune function, and restore the overall balance of the body.
Sarah McGuire, R.Ac.
Sarah McGuire, R.Ac., knows that the free movement of qi (energy) is vital to good health. Her belief is that treating the root cause of pain or illness is the key to better health. With blockages removed and balance restored, one sees renewed possibility, leading us toward our true potential. Sarah’s clients experience a compassionate and effective treatment which utilizes traditional acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, five element acupuncture, acutonics, biopuncture, tuina and cupping.
Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body for therapeutic effect. According to traditional chinese medicine, by placing needles at certain points in the body your acupuncturist is able to access meridians and affect the flow of qi (energy) and xue (blood) to restore balance and promote healing.

Microneedling and Collagen Induction Therapy
Microneedling aka collagen induction therapy, is a holistic skincare treatment, which stimulates our natural healing mechanism to provide the most natural looking results.
The mechanism of the treatment is to cause micro-tears in order to stimulate your own natural healing process by triggering the release of cytokines and growth factors which stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin (the key to youthful skin).
The increase in natural collagen results in skin tightening, reduction in fine lines and deep wrinkles, as well as the restructuring of acne scar tissues.
Why choose microneedling?
- we use the Dermapen, a medical grade, microneedling tool to optimize skin health
- microneedling has minimal downtime
- can be performed on all skin types
- normalizes and restores cell functions to treat stubborn skin conditions such as
- hyperpigmentation and discolouration
Does it hurt?
Typical anesthetic is typically applied prior to the treatment which allows for a comfortable experience for most people.
How many treatments do I need?
Typical treatment series requires four to six sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart. Results are long term (new collagen lasts five to ten years) and accumulative, which make microneedling an excellent choice for holistic and preventative skincare.
The Acupuncture Microcurrent Facial
what is Microcurrent?
Microcurrent is a clinically tested therapy and one of the hottest innovations in anti-aging treatments. It is commonly referred to as “The Natural Facelift.”
Microcurrent is used for facial contouring, toning, and firming of aging skin. Microcurrent is a low-level current that mimics the body’s natural current. Microcurrent stimulates the facial area by sending soft, gentle waves through the skin, tissues and down to the facial muscles.
Microcurrent has been shown to increase ATP concentration and protein synthesis while promoting amino acid uptake. ATP is known as Adenosine Triphosphate, which drives the creation of essential structural proteins, such as collagen and elastin. Collagen makes up one-third of a total protein in the skin, and elastin provides the recoil necessary to keep the face looking young and vibrant.
Increased ATP also energizes the facial muscles, similar to how exercise energizes the muscles of our bodies. Unlike anywhere else on the body, the facial muscles are directly connected to the skin, so the result of energizing the muscle through microcurrent is often an improved, lifted appearance.
In this treatment, Microcurrent is used in conjunction with acupuncture which influences the health of the skin and works on more than the superficial signs of premature aging. This Acupuncture and Microcurrent combination works on two levels maximizing the benefits of the microcurrent procedure. The first level relates to our overall health and wellbeing. This is important because what we see on the face is often just a reflection of other underlying imbalances or issues. People usually notice how their skin, including spots and breakouts, are worse during times of stress. Even emotional stressors such as anger, confusion and worry will make us frown, pulling our facial muscles in a particular way, which over time may lead to damage, tension, and deepening of lines and wrinkles.
The second level of change is how acupuncture enhances the flow of energy and promotes our natural healing response. This natural healing response increases oxygenation levels through microcirculation, which supports detoxification and prevents facial puffiness. Acupuncture also helps by boosting the flow of blood, nutrients and cells to the area.
why choose microcurrent?
- provides immediate and ongoing results
- a non-invasive treatment that is soothing, gentle and effective
- no downtime
- safe and natural aesthetic technology and treatment
- the results can be so dramatic that microcurrent therapy treatments are often referred to as a natural facelift
does it hurt?
Microcurrent is a safe, gentle and soothing treatment that uses low-level currents. Because microcurrent works sub-sensory, the treatment is relaxing, and most patients feel nothing at all.
how many treatments do I need?
Typical treatment series requires four to eight sessions, the frequency of these sessions will be discussed with your practitioner.
Results are long term (new collagen lasts five to ten years) and accumulative, making microcurrent an excellent choice for holistic and preventative skincare.
Moxa is the herb Artemisia (mugwort) commonly rolled into a cigar shape, and burned during treatment. Acupuncture practitioners use the hot moxa ember to warm regions and acupuncture points with the intention of stimulating circulation and inducing flow of blood and qi. In the clinic a smoke-free variety of moxa is used to keep the air clear, so patients can breathe freely during a treatment.
